What will most likely be a sad day for Conservatives and Tea Partiers everywhere. Glenn Beck‘s Fox New Program, “Glenn Beck” will be ending later this year according to a story on The New York Times.
Glenn Beck’s program commonly included fear mongering (and depending on who you ask, propaganda) in regards to anyone that didn’t think like a conservative. Liberals, progressives, socialists, and people he often referred to as “radicals” were the primary targets. If you were looking for a crazy-ass conspiracy to convince yourself to stockpile food and weapons, Glenn was the guy to turn to.
While at one time his show was popular, 2.2 million viewers each weekday (easy to accomplish when you feed people’s love of illogical conspiracies), within the last year, however, those ratings have begun to slip. Another possible cause of the parting of ways is exodus of advertisers from Beck’s time slot, nearly 300 at one point, thanks in part to the organization Color of Change‘s advertiser boycott and Beck’s labeling of Obama as racist in 2009. Color of Change director, James Rucker stated that, “Fox News Channel clearly understands that Beck’s increasingly erratic behavior is a liability to their ratings and their bottom line, and we are glad to see them take this action.”
While I wish I could give Fox a high-five for their actions I get this sneaking suspicion that they’ll simply be filling that empty time slot with an equally biased, lopsided, illogical and twisted program to keep their viewers hooked and brainwashed.
