Daily Kos Manifesto

An author by the name of stormkrow at Daily Kos assembled a Manifesto suggesting changes to our government. It apparently came about as the author was trying to organize various discussions that he and a friend of his had over the course of a year and shows both ends of a political spectrum as his friend was essentially his political opposite. These suggestions actually cover a lot of topics that I’ve discussed before, mainly the issues with campaign contributions. If you’ve got a few minutes it’s definitely worth a read, very well worded and passionate, you at least have to admire that.

The unfortunate thing about this manifesto is that at the conclusion the author suggests that to get Congress to put these suggestions into action we’ll all need to, on November 5th no less (how corny), begin a General Strike, where no one will go to work or school as well as rally upon the nation’s capitol. The problem is, too many citizens in this country, even the ones that are sick of how things are going and essentially agree that changes need to be made, are just too lazy to do anything about it. Before any of us are ready to commit to possibly losing our jobs or being arrested the situations going to have to get a lot worse than it is now. Before people are willing to make drastic sacrifices to better their future they’ll need to be at the end of their ropes.

If that’s what it’s going to take for changes like this to be made, changes that swing our government’s focus from corporations back to its citizens, than I hope it happens sooner rather than later. Let’s get it done and over with so we can move on.
